Memorable Manitobans: Janet Baldwin (1943-2022)Professor, community activist. Born at Bolton, England on 19 May 1943, daughter of Joseph and Irene Baldwin, she was educated at Bolton School before studying law at King's College, London where she received a LLB degree (1964). She received an LLM degree from the University of Illinois after studying at the University of Warsaw (1964-1966). She came to Winnipeg to join the University of Manitoba, serving as Professor of Law (1967-1998) and Associate Dean of Law for four periods between 1982 and 1997. She was a Commissioner (2000) and Chair (2001-2007) of the Manitoba Human Rights Commission. After retirement, she chaired the Hunger and Poverty Awareness Committee of Winnipeg Harvest.
