Memorable Manitobans: Peter John Alekno (?-?)Photographer, undertaker. Described as a “Polish Ruthenian” with an imperfect knowledge of English, he had a photography business in Winnipeg around 1907 and, in 1913, he constructed a building on Selkirk Avenue in Winnipeg to house his undertaking business. He ran for a seat on the Winnipeg School Board in December 1914 but was defeated. He later ran an ambulance service (c1916) along with undertaking but appears to have left Winnipeg around 1920.
