Memorable Manitobans: Abishabis [Small Eyes] (?-1843)Native prophet. Born near York Factory to Cree parents, he was converted to Methodism by James Evans. Later, in 1842, he assumed a role asa spiritual prophet around Moose Factory and Fort Albany. Accused of being a windigo, he was arrested by the Hudson’s Bay Company at Severn House. He was subsequently killed by three of his people on 30 August 1843. More information:
