The University Women’s Club of Portage la Prairie provides fellowship for members, leadership and effective action for community initiatives, and a voice for national issues through the Canadian Federation of University Women.
A project undertaken by the University Women’s Club in 1982 was to document the one-room schoolhouses that once operated in the Portage la Prairie School Division. Coordinated by member Joan Scrase, local artists Charlotte Jones and Karen Braden were commissioned to do pen and ink drawings of the schools. Photographs, written and verbal information was collected from members of the community, and deposited at the Portage Plains Regional Library. The drawings are displayed in the School Division offices, and copies are available for purchase there.
