Memorable Manitobans: Gail Frances Moss Atkins (c1950-2021)

Educator.

Born around 1950, daughter of Betty Murray Davidson (1915-1996) and Ralph Edwin Moss (1914-2014), she became an educator during the 1970s. Her career included teaching at Maple Leaf School (?-?), Regent Park School (?-?), Anola Elementary School (c1970s), Windsor Park Collegiate (?-?), and J. H. Bruns Collegiate (?-?), the latter at which she was also Vice-Principal (c2000), followed with tenures as Principal of Nelson McIntyre Collegiate (?-?) and Glenlawn Collegiate (2006-2007). She also served as President (four years) of the St. Boniface Teachers’ Association.

She was married twice, first on 22 December 1973 to teacher Clare Lavere “Chuck” Atkins at the Windsor Park United Church. After his death, she married Dietrich “Dick” Pauls at Victoria Beach on 12 October 1996. There were no children by either marriage and her second marriage ended in divorce in 2019.

She died at Golden Links Lodge in Winnipeg around April 2021 and is commemorated with the Gail Atkins Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Louis Riel School Division.
