Athlete, educator.
Born at Portage la Prairie on 8 July 1948 to Anne Nitchuk (1912-1988) and Michael “Mickey” Ryngach (1914-1974), she graduated from the Portage Collegiate Institute.
She was an athlete from an early age, winning tennis and basketball championships in her teens, and was at one time one of Manitoba’s top ranked junior tennis players. In 1970, she won the Prairie Provinces singles tennis championship and was the University of Manitoba’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1970. She received Bachelor of Physical Education (1969) and Bachelor of Education (1974) degrees from the University of Manitoba.
She had a 33-year teaching and coaching career at Westwood Collegiate. As well, she coached the University of Manitoba women’s basketball team for two years and in 1983 was named Great Plains Athletic Conference coach of the year. She was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994. Later in her life, golf became her passion. Along with her love of sports, she enjoyed time spent at the lake swimming, biking, building forts on the beach, and crafts and playing on the veranda with her godchild.
She died at Winnipeg on 5 June 2007 and was buried in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
