Lois Braun

Educator, writer.

Born at Rosenfeld, she was educated at the University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba. She worked as a school teacher in Altona until her retirement in 2003. Her collection of short stories A Stone Watermelon was shortlisted in 1986 for the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction. Her other collections of short stories were The Pumpkin Eaters (1990), The Montreal Cats (1995), and The Penance Drummer (2007), the latter of which won the Margaret Laurence Award from the Manitoba Book Awards (2008). Her memoir Peculiar Lessons: How Nature and the Material World Shaped a Prairie Childhood was published in 2020.
