Memorable Manitobans: Peter L. Friesen (1930-2021)
Educator.
Born at Schanzenfeld in 1930, one of 13 children of John and Helena Friesen, he farmed at Schanzenfeld until making a career change and going into teaching. His first assignment was at Edward School (1958-1960). He subsequently taught at Winkler School (1961-1966), Morden, and Winnipeg. He was a Principal in East Kildonan, including at Miles Macdonell Collegiate (1975-1985). Active in his church, he was a board member of Youth For Christ for 30 years. He was married twice, first to Susan Fehr (c1932-1996) with whom he had two daughters and three sons. He died at Winnipeg on 3 May 2021 and was buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
