Memorable Manitobans: Charles Alan Finnbogason (1954-2008)

Property developer and manager.

Born at Winnipeg on 13 January 1954 to Marguerite Elin Olson (1921-2015) and Alan Bardal Finnbogason (1921-2019), he attended Strathmillan School, Birchwood School, Golden Gate School, and Silver Heights Collegiate. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in 1975, following which he had a successful career in property development and management, including 11 years in Toronto, where he rose to the position of Vice-President of Trizec, an international development company.

In 1992, he and his wife Hanna returned to Winnipeg, where he served as Vice-President of Trizec for Manitoba and Saskatchewan, then General Manager of St. Vital Centre. He retired from 20 VIC Management Inc. in 2004, and formed his own consulting company, Franklin Retail Advisors, retiring from the business in fall of 2007. He was also involved in the community, his associations including the Rotary Club of St. Vital, a board member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and a member of the financial committee of the MS Society of Winnipeg. He was an enthusiastic cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family.

In January 2008, he and his wife fulfilled their long-time dream of buying a retirement home on the ocean just outside Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they had vacationed for many years. They spent one winter there before his untimely passing.

He died at Puerto Vallarta on 20 May 2008.
