Educator.
Born at Edmonton, Alberta on 26 May 1937 to Betty Margaret Horne (1908-?) and Peter Kemp Alexander (1904-1994), she moved with her family to Winnipeg as a young child. She attended the University of Manitoba and attained Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees before enjoying a career as an elementary school teacher for a few years, including at Ashland School (1967-1968). In 1959, she married Robert John Melville “Bob” Bevis (1935-2024) and they went on to have three children.
She was active in the Junior League and the University Women’s Club (President 1992-1993), and sat as a Director and Chairman of the Board of the Health Sciences Centre. When her children were older, she found a career in business, becoming an expert in income tax preparation. Summers were spent with the family at the cabin she and her husband built on Dorothy Lake at Whiteshell Provincial Park.
In 1994, she and her husband moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia to care for her widowed mother. During her time there, she was an active member of Probus (a club for retired professionals and business people), served as a Director on the Board of the Nanaimo and District Hospital, and was an avid supporter of the Vancouver Island Symphony.
She died at Nanaimo on 16 April 2012.
