Educator.
Born at Runnymede, Saskatchewan on 4 March 1936, sixth of seven children of Frank Betz and Magdalene Wirl, he completed a high school diploma at Neepawa. After receiving a teaching certificate at the Manitoba Teachers' College, his 35-year teaching career began in rural schools, including Clarke School and Brock School.
In 1958, he returned to Winnipeg to join the staff of Linwood School where he met his future wife, fellow teacher Isabel Mary Barker. They married in 1961 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and subsequently had a daughter and four sons. He operated a hobby farm near Beausejour, had retirement homes in Headingley and Texas, and a cottage at Granite Lake (Ontario).
He continued teaching at Deer Lodge School (1966-1969) then served as the Vice-Principal of Heritage School (1969-1971) and Linwood School (1971-1973), and Principal of Woodhaven School (1973-1974), Assiniboine School (1974-1977), Stevenson-Britannia School (1977-1984), Britannia School (1978-1979), Strathmillan School (1984-1988), and Buchanan School (1988-1990).
He died at Winnipeg on 4 March 2022.
