Memorable Manitobans: Henry Benjamin Bees (c1886-1968)

Educator.

Born in England around 1886, he came to Manitoba in 1912 where he was a teacher at Norfolk School (1918), Clanwilliam School (1919), and Iris School (1920), and Principal at Greenridge School (1921-1922), Miniota Municipal School at Beulah (1922-1930), Crandall School (1930-1932), Russell School (1932-1934), Angus School (1934-1937), Lac du Bonnet School (1937-1939), Langruth School (1940), Kirkella School (1940-1941), Kelwood School (1942-1943), Amaranth School (1943-1945), and Dugald School (1949-1951). On 27 December 1921, he married Helen Gertrude McLeod (c1899-1974) at Winnipeg. They had six children: Henry George Bees (1920-2005), William D. “Bill” Bees, Margery Bees, Katherine Elinor Bees (c1927-2001, wife of James R. Furness), Bevereley Bees, and Helen Elizabeth Bees (c1938-2012, wife of Alvin J. Spencer). He died at Brandon on 16 June 1968 and was buried in the Garry Memorial Park.
