Historic Sites of Manitoba: Nellie McClung Collegiate / Nellie McClung Plaque (322 Carrie Street, Manitou, Municipality of Pembina)

This building on Carrie Street in Manitou, in the Municipality of Pembina, was constructed in 1964. It accommodated students in the Pembina Valley School Division in grades 9 to 12, before which classes had been held in the former Manitou Normal School.

A plaque in front of the school was erected by the Manitoba Heritage Council to commemorate the school’s namesake, suffragist Nellie McClung, who lived in Manitou from 1896 to 1911.
