This 2½-story brick and stucco church on Bannerman Avenue in Winnipeg, measuring 40 feet by 69 feet, was designed by local architect Edgar Prain. It was built in 1923 by the construction firm of Pain and Roe at an initial cost of about $16,000 (later rising to about $22,000) for the congregation of Tabernacle Baptist Church which had moved from an earlier church on Burrows Avenue.

A cornerstone for the building was laid by D. W. Hudson on 22 September 1923 and it was dedicated officially on 16 December 1923 at a ceremony attended by Reverend Franklin W. Sweet. The church had a seating capacity for about 400 people.
