Historic Sites of Manitoba: National Storage and Cartage Building / Johnston Terminal Building (25 Forks Market Road, Winnipeg)

This building was constructed in 1928 by the Carter-Halls-Aldinger Construction Company, at an estimated cost of $134,700, to provide warehouse space for the Canadian National Railways. It was leased to the National Storage and Cartage Limited, a wholly-owned CNR subsidary, until 1961. For the next 15 years, it was occupied by the Johnston National Cartage Company, later known as Johnston Terminals Company, from which the present building name is derived. It sat vacant as of 1977 and was later renovated as retail space at The Forks. The Winnipeg building is a municipally-designated historic site.
