Memorable Manitobans: Patricia Anne “Pat” Wightman (1931-2017)

Physician, psychiatrist.

Born at Pennant, Saskatchewan on 8 October 1931 and raised at Oxbow, she graduated from medical school at the University of Manitoba in 1956 and practiced anaesthesia until 1978. At that time, she made a significant career change and started studying psychiatry. She obtained her fellowship in 1982 and was a psychiatrist at the Health Sciences Centre until her retirement in 2017. She received awards from the Schizophrenia Society and Mood Disorder Association. She became an honourary member of the Canadian Medical Association in 2014. She and husband Reginald Clive Wightman (son of Reginald Frederick Wightman) had four children.

She died at Winnipeg on 18 September 2017.
