Memorable Manitobans: Mike Ward (1936-2013)

Journalist.

Born at London, England on 16 January 1936, he began a life-long career in journalism on Fleet Street in London. He immigrated to Canada and worked at the Winnipeg Free Press as a general reporter and travel editor. He also wrote an ombudsman column and started the newspaper’s “Pennies from Heaven” campaign that provided support for the less fortunate people of Winnipeg. He died at Gimli on 24 November 2013.
