Memorable Manitobans: William Harvey Van Sickle (1917-1982)Educator. Born in the RM of Grahamdale on 15 September 1917, son of William Roy Van Sickle and Marjorie Marion Bullen, first cousin of V. H. L. Wyatt, he taught at Britannia School (?-1949) in the St. James Municipal School District before being appointed Principal of Woodhaven School (1949-1952). From 1952 to 1956, he was a teacher at the Peguis Reserve at Hodgson. On 24 April 1943 he married Joan Burgess (1921-1982) at St. Patrick’s Church in Winnipeg and had three children. He and his wife moved to Ottawa, Ontario in 1956 where he took a position with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. They died in a car crash on 20 October 1982 and were buried in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
