Memorable Manitobans: Alex Tevendale (c1932-2003)Businessman, community activist. Born around 1932, son of David and Anne Tevendale, he worked in retail and owned Service Sports Limited and later bought and managed the Techmatic Art Store. He was active in the community and served on the Board of Directors for Camp Manitou, Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Manitoba, Association for Retarded Children, and The Provincial Exhibition. He was Provincial Easter Seal Chairman in 1968, co-chaired United Way, was a life member of the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg, was President of the K-40 Club, was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission in 1978 and Chairman in 1981. He was involved actively in civic, provincial, and federal politics and chaired several successful campaigns. He died at Winnipeg on 1 October 2003.
