Herbert Edward Swift

Lawyer.
Born in England in 1884, he came to Canada in 1905 and became associated with the Winnipeg law firm of Howell and Mathers. He was made a King's Counsel (1933). At the time of his death, he was senior partner in the firm Swift Macleod Deacon and Kirby. He was a Bencher (1946-1956) and President (1956) of the Law Society of Manitoba, and President of the Manitoba Bar Association (1946-1947).
On 11 July 1916, he married Grace Donalda Wilson (1896-1975) at Winnipeg and they had two sons, Herbert Arnold Swift (1917-?) and John Donald Rushworth Swift (1920-2013). The family lived at 289 Montrose Street. He was a member of the Masons (Northern Light Lodge).
He died at Winnipeg on 12 October 1956 and was buried in the St. John's Cathedral Cemetery.
