Memorable Manitobans: Walter Sokolowski (1933-2024)

Accountant, businessman.

Born at Winnipeg on 2 March 1933, son of Alexander Sokolowski (1878-1958) and Taciana Kozak (1894-1986), he graduated from the University of Manitoba and became a chartered accountant. He worked at Manitoba Pool Elevators and rose to the position of Chief Financial Officer (1975-1995) after which he retired. On 21 July 1956, he married nurse Victoria “Vicki” Olynyk (1933-2017) of Buchanan, Saskatchewan at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and they had two daughters and a son. He died at the Grace Hospital on 19 October 2024.
