Vegetable and meat merchant.
Born at London, England on 6 December 1848, he came to Winnipeg in 1880 and operated a vegetable stand in the old city market for many years. In later years, he offered butchery service in addition to his vegetable business. When the market was closed, he moved to the north end and continued in business there until a few years later.
He and wife Margaret “Maggie” Walker (?-1912) had three children: Robert John Scarfe (1885-1962), Elizabeth Maud Scarfe (1887-1970, wife of John Isaac Ballard), and Stanley Walker “Pat” Scarfe (1890-1972).
He died in his West Kildonan residence, 1747 Main Street, on 6 December 1927 and was buried in the Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery.
