Insurance agent, community activist.
Born at Morris on 17 April 1963 to Edna Reimer (?-?) and Jacob L. Rempel (1926-2000), he held various jobs in his teens, including concrete work, grain bin construction, lawn care, and farm hand, then graduated from Morris High School in 1981. He attended the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba, and started selling crop hail insurance in his first year of studies, which is when Dale's Hail Limited began. He worked towards obtaining his Professional Agrologist designation, all the while playing minor hockey, a career that eventually included 13 seasons in the South East Minor Hockey League (SEMHL).
Upon graduation, he lived at Morden and found employment with Hoechst Canada, a supplier of chemicals, agriculture products, and pharmaceuticals. He married teacher Lynn Anderson on 1 November 1986, and they went on to have two children. He began a new career with General Insurance at Winkler, and then moved back to Morris in 1990 to establish Rempel Insurance Brokers Limted.
He became involved in the community through sports and volunteer organizations. He served as President of the Morris Community Development Corporation, a Director of the Valley Ag Society and the Manitoba Stampede, President of the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba, and President of Insurance Brokers Association of Canada. Over the years he contributed time and/or financial support to the Morris Chamber of Commerce, Ag Expo Committee, Morris Wellness Centre, Southern Manitoba Convention Centre, Morris Riverview Golf Country Club, Cafe 75 (a Youth for Christ drop-in centre in Morris), Children's Wish Foundation, and CancerCare Manitoba. He was instrumental in bringing the Pembina Valley Twisters Junior Hockey Club to Morris and served as the organization’s President, while spending many hours coaching minor hockey as well as local baseball teams.
He was highly respected for his vision, strength, enthusiasm, volunteerism, generosity, and devotion to his family.
He died at Morris on 5 October 2012 and was buried in the Morris Cemetery. The Dale Rempel Memorial Scholarship was established in his honour, as well as the Dale Rempel Person of the Year Award that recognizes players in the SEMHL who have made outstanding contributions to sport and their community.
