Lewis James Pulfer

Banker, grain buyer, farmer, municipal official.
Born in Brampton, Ontario on 25 April 1893, son of James Pulfer (1864-1943) and Bertha Coe (1868-1958), he came to Manitoba with his family in 1899 before they settled on a farm southeast of Balmoral. He worked for the Northern Crown Bank, Stonewall telephone exchange, Stonewall Bank, and as manager of the Bank of Miniota.
During the First World War, in 1918 he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force and served with the First Depot Battalion, Manitoba Regiment. He went overseas and returned to Canada in 1919.
In 1921, he married Vera Gaudhe (1897-1995) in Saskatchewan and they had six children. He lived in Beausejour for 40 years. He was employed as a grain buyer for the Canadian Consolidated Grain Company (1928-1938) and served as the Mayor of Beausejour (1945-1949) and clerk for the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead.
He died at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg on 8 November 1986.
