James Pulfer

Farmer, municipal official, school trustee.
Born in Peel County, Canada West (now Ontario) on 22 February 1864, he was the son of John Pulfer (1823-1919) and Eliza Burrows (1830-1897). On 25 December 1889, he married Bertha Annie Coe (1868-1958) in the Township of Mulmur, Ontario. In 1899, he immigrated to Manitoba from Ontario with his wife and four children, including Lewis James Pulfer, settling soon afterward on a farm southeast of Balmoral, where additional children were born.
He served as the councillor for Ward 3 of the Rural Municipality of Rockwood for two terms, from 1917 to 1921, and was a trustee for many years for the Centre School District and Balmoral School District. He was also a member of the Manitoba Grain Growers' Association and the United Farmers of Manitoba.
He died at Stonewall on 2 December 1943 and is buried in the Victoria United Cemetery.
