Realtor, community activist.
Born at Winnipeg on 24 May 1924 to Laurel Sanderson Bulmer and Roy Sheck Poapst, he pursued a career in real estate, becoming a highly respected member of the business world with S. S. Stevenson and Company Limited. He also served as the President of the Canadian Real Estate Association, Manitoba Real Estate Association, and Appraisal Institute of Canada, among others. His work at the Appraisal Institute was of special importance to him, and he was recognized in his service there for the strong ethics he brought to his post.
In 1983, he was appointed to the Canadian delegation to the United Nations Commission on Human Settlements for five years, representing Canada in increasing and improving efforts to solve human settlement problems around the world. He completed his tenure there in 1987. Along the way, he was in demand across Canada as a speaker at events involving settlement issues and the real estate business.
In 1949, he married Nancy Doreen Barrett (1930-1980), and they went on to have three children. He called himself an “intrepid adventurer,” his life experiences providing him with a story for any occasion and inspiration to his family.
He died at Winnipeg on 2 December 2012 and was buried in the Thomson in the Park Cemetery.
