Memorable Manitobans: Robert Fraser Macintosh “Bob” Myers (1917-2016)

Physician.

Born at North Battleford, Saskatchewan on 16 December 1917, son of Jeanie Ferguson Macintosh (1889-1981) and Frederick John Myers (1884-1974), his childhood was spent at Brandon. After graduating from the Brandon Collegiate, he attended the Manitoba Medical College and received an MD degree from the University of Manitoba in 1941.

During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Canadian Army Medical Corps for four years then returned to Brandon where he established a medical practice and obtained a specialty in Paediatrics in 1959, becoming the first Paediatrician outside of Winnipeg.

He served on the Board of Governors for Winnipeg's Children's Hospital and was a founder of the Brandon Clinic. He was President of the Manitoba Medical Association (1976-1977).

On 27 September 1941, he married Joann Elliott (1919-2014) at Brandon and they had four children. The family had a summer cottage on Clear Lake.

He died at Brandon on 4 February 2016 and was buried in the Brandon Cemetery.
