Memorable Manitobans: Daniel Hereward McCalman (1861-1938)Educator, physician. Born at East Oro, Ontario on 25 December 1861, son of Peter McCalman and Charlotte Burgess, he was educated at the University of Toronto before coming to Manitoba in 1881 where he finished his collegiate course at the University of Manitoba. He taught at Emerson School as of 1882 and was appointed a School Inspector in 1888, serving for ten years. He attended the Manitoba Medical College, graduating in 1899 and beginning the practice of medicine. He was Professor of Obstetrics at the Manitoba Medical College and Senior Obstetrician at the Winnipeg General Hospital. In 1911, he practiced at 4301 Main Street, Winnipeg. He was a member of the Winnipeg Medical Chirurgical Society and the Manitoba Medical Association, and served as President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (1913).
