Memorable Manitobans: George Alfred Christian Knudson (1937-1989)

Golfer.

Born at Winnipeg on 28 June 1937, he attended Bannatyne School. He began playing golf at the St. Charles Golf and Country Club, turned professional in 1961, and won eight PGA victories before his retirement in 1972. He and Al Balding won the World Cup for Canada in 1968. He was a fairway specialist but an indifferent putter. He later worked as a club pro at Toronto. He was a member of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, and was awarded the Order of Canada (1988). He died at Toronto, Ontario on 24 January 1989. He was survived by a wife and three sons.
