Memorable Manitobans: Ada Emily Pitt Huett (1910-1980)

Educator.

Born in the Municipality of Wreford, Saskatchewan in March 1910, daughter of Grace Lawes (1881-?) and Thomas Pitt (1875-?), she moved with her family to Holland by 1921. On 25 May 1940, she married Dyson Alfred Huett (c1908-1974) at Holland. They lived at Russell (?-1950), Miniota (1950-1955), and Nipigon, Ontario (1955-1956), following Dysons career as a rural bank branch manager of the Royal Bank. She was involved in various community groups, was Treasurer (1950) of the Miniota Womens’ Institute, and took up teaching around the 1950s. They returned to Manitoba in 1956 and established roots at Whitemouth, where Dyson was Manager (1956-1968) at the Royal Bank Building and she both taught (1956-1967) and was Principal (1959-1967) at Whitemouth School / Whitemouth Elementary School.

She died in hospital at Pinawa on 6 August 1980. Both she and her husband are commemmorated via the Ada and Dyson Huett Scholarship Award at Whitemouth School.
