Charles Edward Hotel

Farmer, community activist.
Born on a farm near Austin in October 1904, son of George Michael Hotel (1866-1942) and Mary Ann Rigby (1871-1939), he resided and farmed in this area all his life. On 25 June 1932, he married Edna Lorena Jefferson (1906-2007) in the RM of Portage la Prairie and they had two sons and two daughters. Active in community affairs, he served on the council for the Municipality of North Norfolk for over 20 years and was Reeve (1955-1961, 1965-1969) at the time of his death. He was a member of the Masons (Austin Lodge), Austin United Church, and Austin Chamber of Commerce and he served with the Spruce Woods Wildlife Association, Manitoba Agricultural Museum, Canadian Association for Retardation, Austin Cemetery Committee, and Central Plains Development Corporation. He died at MacGregor on 2 July 1969 and was buried in the Austin Cemetery.
