Memorable Manitobans: Franklin Bricker “Frank” Groff (1883-1943)Born at Berlin [now Kitchener], Ontario on 5 September 1883, he came to western Canada around the turn of the 20th century. He farmed for a time at Balmoral before moving to Winnipeg where he was a prominent building contractor. On 23 June 1909, he married Annie May Clemens Cole (1883-1958) at Winnipeg and they had six children: Franklin Robertson “Robert” Groff (1910-2001), Douglas Cole Groff, Margaret Clemens Groff (1914-1997), Olive Henderson Groff (1916-?, wife of Albert Otto Zeemel), Edward Carl “Ted” Groff (1920-2005), and Alan Bricker Groff (1927-1996). He was Commodore of the Winnipeg Canoe Club (1912) and a member of the Masons and Crescent-Fort Rouge United Church. He died at the Misericordia Hospital on 11 March 1943 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery. See also:
