Businessman.
Born on 13 May 1935, son of Paul Grieder (1892-1972) and Mary Rowena Stonehouse (1897-1984), his early childhood was spent on a farm near Carman. In 1940, his family moved to St. Vital and he began working, delivering for a local pharmacy as well as newspapers, at the age of 14. He attended Glenlawn Collegiate to grade 10.
In 1955, he began working at Lowe Brothers Paint, selling paint and arranging paint jobs. Following a conversation with a friend who worked at Reimer Express, he realized that he could buy slightly damaged freight and re-sell it at a profit. He began making sales from the trunk of his car, a Chevy Caprice, and later from the basement of a building on Erin Street. In 1966, when he tried to register his company as Erin Distributors, its name was found to be already taken so it became Caprice Distributors. The firm was highly successful selling freight claims, bankruptcy stock, insurance claims, and close-outs. At its height, it operated at eleven locations, including at Dauphin, Boissevain, and Swan River. He founded G&L Sales Limited in 1985, in partnership with long-time friend Gord Lowry. It continued after the departure of the founders as G&L Liquidation Warehouse.
He was married twice, first on 29 April 1958 to Carole Dawnalyne Stewart (1937-1982) with whom he had two sons. In 1983, he married Abbie and they had a son. He was an active member of the WIndsor Golf Course, Niakwa Country Club, and St. Charles Country Club. He owned several racehorses over a period of 50 years and raced them at Assiniboia Downs.
He died at Winnipeg on 23 May 2026.
