Indigenous leader.
Born at Fort Alexander on 3 January 1914, to Alexander Fontaine (1891-1921) and Therese Courchene (1891-?), he attended the Fort Alexander Indian School and, despite the difficulty of his experience there, remained positive and devoted to his community. As a young man he worked at the Pine Falls Paper Mill and various other jobs, including train conductor, trapper, prospector, and hunter until finishing his working life as a maintenance engineer at the Sagkeeng Consolidated School.
On 21 April 1937, he married Margaret (?-?) and they had seven children. Active in his community, he served as Chief of the Sagkeeng First Nation (1964-1966). He died at the Pine Falls Hospital on 13 January 2008 and was buried in Fort Alexander Catholic Cemetery.
