Memorable Manitobans: Lloyd George Fines (1918-2005)

Farmer, municipal official.

Born in Winnipeg on 19 January 1918 to Ada Willcott (1885-1945) and James Fines (1876-1964), he was raised on the family farm at Balmoral. In 1944, he married Edna Bernice Campbell (1926-2017) and together they raised their three children on the farm on which he was raised. He worked the same land until he retired in 1984 and served as the Reeve of the Rockwood Municipality for 22 years (1953-1975). He enjoyed curling and hunting, travelling to fairs and farm shows, inventing things, repairing old tractors, and in retirement, building toys such as dollhouses and shuffleboards for his grandchildren. He did at Teulon on 5 May 2005 and was buried in the Victoria Cemetery.
