Memorable Manitobans: Marjorie Agnes Earl (1915-1999)Journalist, civil servant. Born at Winnipeg on 4 December 1915, daughter of Eva Susan Brown (1888-1974) and Leonard Francis Earl, she attended Norberry School and received a BA degree from the University of Manitoba. She became one of the first general news reporters employed by the Toronto Star where she worked for seven years before moving to London, England. She freelanced until she was re-hired as the Star's London correspondent. She returned to Canada in 1960 and to Winnipeg in 1961. After her mother's death in 1974, she became a daily columnist at the Winnipeg Tribune where she remained until it closed in 1980. In September 1980, she became an assistant and speech writer to the provincial Minister of Health. She retired in 1986 and, two years later, was the editor of Torch on the Prairies: A Portrait of Journalism in Manitoba, 1859-1988.
