Memorable Manitobans: William Bernhard Doerksen (1899-1987)Educator. Born at Orechow, Russia on 2 August 1899, he emigrated to Canada with his brother and sisters in 1924. After studies at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute and the University of Manitoba, he became a teacher and Principal at several Manitoba towns and in Winnipeg, including Beausejour School (1942-1944). In 1944, he married Aileen Motley. They had no children. He died at Surrey, British Columbia on 27 February 1987 and was buried in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
