Memorable Manitobans: Dorothy Ethelwyn Frost Cox (1922-2023)
Born at the family farmstead (NE27-9-5W) in the Rural Municipality of Grey on 19 October 1922, daughter of Ethel Beatrice Goddard (1886-1954) and James Frost (1899-1936), she attended Wingham School, completed her grade 12 at St. Norbert Academy, attended the Central Normal School (1942-1943), and later obtained BA (1968) and BEd (1971) degrees from the University of Manitoba.
She became an educator, teaching on permit at New Scotland School (1941-1942) followed by Boyne School (1943-1945), and was Principal of Roseisle School (1945-1946) and Justice School (1946-1948). On 8 July 1948, she married Laval Oxwald Cox (?-2006) at Elm Creek United Church and together they had two daughters and two sons. While raising a family, she twice returned to Justice School, as Principal (1952) and teacher (1959-1960), after which she taught at Elton Collegiate (1961-1978) until retirement.
She moved to Marshall Manor at Carberry in 2014 and died at the Carberry Hospital on 7 May 2023.
