Memorable Manitobans: Mildred C. Shatsky Cohen (1906-?)Educator. Born at Winnipeg on 29 July 1906, daughter of Moisha “Moses” Shatsky (1861-1933) and Ida Maggin (1863-1931), she grew up in the family residence at 355 Magnus Avenue and attended William Whyte School. Following teacher training, she taught at Leeland School (1925-1926) and was Principal of Purple Bank School (1926-1927). Within the following few years, she married fellow Winnipeg native Jack Cohen (1902-?) and resided at Chicago, Illinois. The couple had one child: Harilyn Cohen (1930-1935). Still alive in Chicago as of 1946, she died sometime prior to 1979.
