Memorable Manitobans: Michael Bruce Coates (1965-2005)

Farmer.

Born on 30 April 1965 to Murray Albert Coates (1927-2003) and Margaret Isobel Fallis (1924-1993), he attended Roland School then high school at Carman. Involved in the agricultural industry all of his life, he chose farming immediately after high school. During his farming years, he earned his pilot’s license and Class 1 driver’s license, and was most recently employed with Agrotak Limited, an agricultural retail centre near Carman. He served as President of the Manitoba Corn Growers Association and Snowflies Snowmobile Club. He was an avid sportsman, participating in hockey, baseball, golf, snowmobiling, fishing, and boating. He died at Weyburn, Saskatchewan on 17 July 2005 and was buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Roland.
