Memorable Manitobans: George William Burrell (1857-1941)Educator. Born in Ontario on 11 November 1857, he was Principal of Swan Lake School (1912-1916), Emerson School (1916-1917), and Sanford School (1920) and taught at several rural schools across the province, including Perry School (1886), Parkhill School (1887), Newbridge School (1903-1905), Riverton School (1921), Bluff Island School (1922-1923), High Plains School (1929-1930), Cameron School (?), Mary Hill School (?), and Cardale School (?). On 24 March 1917, he married English immigrant Margaret Annie Gertrude Whincup (c1898-1980) in the Rural Municipality of Thompson and they had three children: George Edward Burrell (1919-1985), Margaret Sarah Burrell (1921-?), and Charles J.
