Historic Sites of Manitoba: Ontario Hotel / Yale Hotel (854-860 Main Street, Winnipeg)

This two-storey brick building, on Main Street in Winnipeg, was designed and built in 1901 by owner John Rickard Clements. Known originally as the Ontario Hotel, subsequent operators/managers/proprietors included F. W. Handel (1907), John Judge (1911), and J. Pomes (1930). It was eventually renamed the Yale Hotel in the 1940s. During the 1950s, it was owned and operated by the Drewrys Brewery. The exterior facade of the building has been extensively renovated from its original appearance.

Formerly a municipally-designated historic building, it was de-designated in 2010.
