Historic Sites of Manitoba: Parkview Building (1835 Portage Avenue / 198 Parkview Street, Winnipeg)

This two-storey brick building at the northwest corner of Portage Avenue and Parkview Street in the St. James area of Winnipeg, measuring 33 feet by 70 feet, was constructed in 1911. In its original configuration, the building contained two retail spaces on its main floor while the second floor contained a physician's office accessible from an entrance on Parkview Street.

Realtor Sydney Dorey Richardson (1887-1968) occupied by one of the retail spaces on the main floor while the other space was occupied by a branch of the Bank of Ottawa. The bank branch occupied the space until 1919 when the Bank of Ottawa was absorbed by the Bank of Nova Scotia. It remain a bank branch until 1921.
