Historic Sites of Manitoba: British American Service Station (1795 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg)

Formerly located at the northeast corner of Portage Avenue and Hampton Street in the St. James area of Winnipeg, a one-storey brick building, measuring 27 feet by 42 feet, was built in 1935 by the Winnipeg Supply and Fuel Company, with subcontractors being Kummen-Shipman Electric Company (electrical), Western Steel Products Limited (sheet metal and roofing), Dominion Bridge Company (reinforced steel), and W. King (plumbing and heating), at a cost of about $3,500. It was used as a service station for the British American Oil Company. The building originally had two service bays and three gasoline pumps.

The building has been demolished and the site is now occupied by a convenience store.
