Memorable Manitobans: Lawrence William “Lorne” Strick (1935-2019)

Educator.

Born at Winnipeg on 29 June 1935, son of William “Bill” Strick (1903-1994) and Lena Drobot (1909-1997), he grew up at Dugald and attended Dugald School and Manitoba Teachers’ College. His 38-year career in education included teaching at Hoey East School (1954-1955) and Beatrice School (1958), and was Principal of Middlebro School (1958-1960) and Seven Sisters Falls School (1961-1967), after which he joined the Winnipeg School Division and taught at Lord Selkirk School (1967-1993) until retirement in 1993. He also worked part time as a Park Patrol Officer at Birds Hill Provincial Park. On 3 August 1963, he married fellow educator Eleanor Emily Kazina at Beausejour and they had two sons. He died at Winnipeg on 3 May 2019 and was buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
