This company was incorporated in 1927 through the merger of two companies, McColl Brothers, founded by John McColl (?-?), and the Frontenac Oil Refineries of Montreal. By 1941, majority ownership of the company was purchased by the American-based oil company Texaco and, on the 2 February 1959, the company was renamed Texaco Canada Limited.
