Historic Sites of Manitoba: Jackson Methodist Church / Jackson United Church (RM of Portage la Prairie)

On 28 November 1909, Jackson Methodist Church opened at this site in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie with a service conducted by Rev. D. M. Kennedy of MacGregor and Rev. W. E. W. Seller of Portage la Prairie. The church building was a brick veneer structure measuring 24 feet by 36 feet with concrete blocks at its four corners. A minister’s vestry at the bottom measured 10 feet by 12 feet. The church was served by circuit minister Rev. John Hellyer of West Prospect Methodist Church.

This church closed in 1961 and the building was removed. It is commemorated by a fieldstone monument.
