Memorable Manitobans: Orest Ziolkoski (1933-1997)Educator, administrator. Born at Garland in 1933, son of Michael and Jennie Ziolkoski, he taught at Pine River School (1956-1959) and Brickburn School (1959-1962) before moving to Roblin where he was the Principal of Roblin Collegiate (1962-1967). He then became the first Superintendent of the Intermountain School District, serving until 1974 when he returned as Principal to Roblin Collegiate until 1980. He continued to teach at the school until retirement in 1991. He was a member of the executive for the Manitoba Retired Teachers Association (President, 1995-1996). In recognition of his community service, he received a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal (1977). He died at Roblin on 10 June 1997. Sources:Obituary, Winnipeg Free Press, 14 June 1997, page 57.
