Memorable Manitobans: Iris Mabel Thompson Winning (1939-2017)

Educator.

Born on a farm in the RM of Lansdowne on 22 May 1939, daughter of Vera Viola Schneider (1907-2001) and Walter Thompson (1904-1979), she attended Glenholm School and Arden High School. She attended Teachers’ College then married David B. Winning and they lived on a farm at Rosser and had two children. She completed a BEd degree while teaching, including service as Vice-Principal (1980-1993) and Principal (1993-1995) of Beaumont School. She died at Stonewall on 10 March 2017.
