Memorable Manitobans: William Bell Wilson (1921-2013)

Architect.

Born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 22 August 1921, son of Scottish immigrants, he apprenticed as a plumber in 1940 then, as the Second World War erupted, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served aboard the HMCS Blairmore. After his military discharge, he attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a degree in Architecture in May 1950.

He joined the architectural firm of Moody Moore and Partners in October 1950 and stayed with it until retirement in 1986. He contributed to the design of such Winnipeg buildings as the Health Sciences Centre and the National Research Council Building.

He and wife Fern Little (1926-2022) had four children before they separated. In retirement, he moved to the family cottage at Victoria Beach where he spent almost 30 years golfing, reading, cycling, and editing the local newsletter.

He died at Pine Falls on 11 March 2013.
